Geography involves an engaging, motivating and challenging curriculum. This will be delivered by enthusiastic teachers with strong subject knowledge who can inspire and motivate all students. Curiosity will underpin all learning through academic rigour encouraging independent learners who are brave and well-rounded global citizens. Geography is a hands-on subject that helps our students make sense of the world. Both human and physical elements help to consider solutions to pressing challenges facing our world today. Students will have a deepened understanding of geographical processes, the impact of complex people- environment interactions, the dynamic links between people and place with the ability to apply a wide range of geographical methods and investigative skills.

The vision of History at The Hart School is to develop students’ knowledge of the past to help them understand the world around them. Through exploring how historians work, and the types of questions they ask, students will be able to articulate their own thoughts around change and continuity, causation, and the historical significance of events. Through the prism of History students will develop a range of transferable communication skills, beneficial to other areas of study and future learning pathways. The curriculum will ensure that students become confident and successful historians through a programme of historical enquiry and discovery – promoting a life-long love of History.

Our aim is to deliver a rich and inspiring curriculum which gives every student the opportunity to understand and communicate in a foreign language.

The curriculum allows students to appreciate how languages work and enables them to apply this understanding to both foreign languages and their own. In addition to their linguistic development, students also gain an insight into another culture and way of life, thus broadening their global awareness. 

At KS3 all students study Spanish. The topics covered prepare students for a future languages GCSE. These contain themes such as family and school and culture in Spain in years seven and eight, moving to more in depth topics such as future careers and the environment in year nine. Emphasis is on acquiring key vocabulary, developing listening and speaking skills, and guiding them through GCSE style written tasks.
